Kindergarten
teachers in China come mainly from schools for kindergarten
teachers (specialized middle schools) and kindergarten
teachers classes of vocational senior middle schools.
In some cities, a few college graduates and graduates
with a master's or doctor's degree who specialize
in pre-school education work at kindergartens. Kindergarten
teachers in China, the majority of whom are women,
not only have had a fair level of education and
gained
knowledge on child psychology and education, but
also have had training on singing, dancing, drawing
and handwork. Most of them are good at singing and
dancing, and capable of doing a few child games.
Every teacher has one or two feats up her sleeve
that fascinate the children.

With
a general improvement of pre-school education,
higher requirements are set for the schooling
of kindergarten teachers. The specialty of pre-school
education at institutions of higher learning in
China was first established in 1953, when Nanjing
Normal University, Beijing Normal University and
Southwest China Normal University began enrolling
students majoring in pre-school education. Graduates
serve mainly as teachers and managerial personnel
of schools for kindergarten teachers. Later, more
colleges set up the pre-school education specialty,
and Beijing Normal University and Nanjing Normal
University began offering graduate studies for
students working for a master's or doctor's degree
in pre-school education. Many working kindergarten
teachers who are not graduates of schools for
kindergarten teachers or whose schooling is not
sufficient took part in part-time studies in the
forms of short-term and full-time training offered
by normal schools and colleges, attendance at
evening schools, correspondence universities,
and radio and television universities, and self-study
with standardized examinations.
